FAQ

Is Thai Massage for me?

In general, Thai massage is for all. However, caution should be exercised if you have any underlying medical conditions.
Traditional Thai massage can be quite a vigorous treatment requiring stretching, and pressure on joints and muscles, and as such it can stimulate blood flow. Therefore, if you have any conditions where this might be unsafe (such as a heart condition, high blood pressure , a recent operation etc.), you should seek medical advice first.
For treatments requiring essential oils, such as Aromatherapy, you should consider if you have any skin conditions, allergies, or sensitivities.

Where can I find you?

If you’ve never been to us before, we are in Fortuna House in South Fifth Street. There are a number of businesses in Fortuna House, but the exclusive entrance to our spa is on the far left of the ground floor.
On the first floor is our main treatment area, and on the second is The Level. As you walk up the stairs, a jolly chime is played to alert us to your arrival, and someone will come to greet you.
If nobody is immediately available, please wait at reception and someone will be there shortly.
If you’re having problems with stairs, we have access to a lift. It can be found on the right side of the building, through Bianco’s reception. Please let us know in advance so that someone can meet you there.
To ensure you get the most out of your visit, it’s better to come slightly early. We build in some contingency for the consent form, but, if possible, allow 10 minutes just in case.

Is there parking?

Yes, we have two exclusive parking bays immediately in front of the building, but you can park in any available space if these are occupied.
Otherwise, there is a large NCP area nearby.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Anything you feel comfortable in. Most of our massage treatments may require some degree of disrobing, but this will depend on certain factors.
Aromatherapy massage uses essential oils applied directly to the skin. Whilst complete discretion is assured, it is advisable to remove any clothing you don’t wish to come into contact with these oils.
Traditional Thai massage can be done fully clothed, but it must be light fitting, and allow for generous back, arm, and leg movements.

Should I eat before my appointment?

It is generally advised not to eat a large meal immediately before your visit, but this will largely depend on your type of treatment. Most massages start with the client lying on their front, so you might find this a little uncomfortable if you’ve had a big meal.

Do you have any advice for after my massage?

Yes. Relaaaaaxxxxx… if possible.
It’s generally a good idea to take it easy after a massage. Just give your mind and body time to absorb the benefits of the treatment.
Drink a good amount of water to rehydrate and help those muscles further.
Avoid a hot shower or bath immediately after. This can cause inflammation in the muscles, reducing the benefits and increasing soreness. Using warm, or lukewarm water with mild soap is much better.

Can I have a massage if I’m pregnant?

It depends. Ruen Thai Spa offers gentle prenatal massage therapies at standard prices. NHS guidelines suggest waiting until the second trimester. However, as the safety of both mother and baby is paramount at Ruen Thai, we think waiting longer is safer and therefore I’m afraid we cannot accept clients during their first 21 weeks.

Do you have Gift Vouchers?

Yes, we do. These are available on-line and in the spa, and come in various denominations. A lovely way to tell someone you care about them!

If you’re unsure about any of the above, we would be only too happy to talk it through with you.
